Once again, rumors are found to be true and Apple has announced the 7.9 inch iPad aka iPad mini. The iPad mini, as the name suggests, is the smaller form of the ‘traditional’ iPad. Also comes with a price tag which can confuse buyers.

iPad mini

The all new iPad mini was launched along with the new iMac, 13 inch Macbook pro and an upgraded version of the new iPad aka iPad 3. This iPad, iPad mini, sits somewhere between the iPod touch and iPad 3.

It comes in two variants - WiFi and WiFi + Cellular; and with three storage options. iPad mini is as light as your notepad and is just 300g. Talking about its specs, It has a 7.9-inch display with resolution of 1024×768. That’s not retina display. Rear camera is 5MP iSight which is quite satisfying for a tablet.

Tech specs in brief:

  • OS: iOS 6
  • 7.9 inch LED-backlit IPS screen
  • Resolution: 1024 x 768 pixels, 163 pixels per inch (Not a retina display)
  • Dual-core A5 chip (same as iPad 2)
  • 5 MP rear and 1.2 MP front facing camera
  • Comes with Apple’s new lightning connector and 10 hours of battery usage.
  • Sensors: Accelerometer, gyro, light sensor
  • Connectivity: WiFi model – WiFi + Digital compass
    WiFi + Cellular – WiFi + Digital compass + GPS + cellular

Price: Starting from $329(16 GB WiFi only). So if you already have an iPad then you do not need to degrade it to iPad mini. iPad mini is for those who want to own an iPad and want to save some bucks at the same time.

How can the price confuse buyers?

For $399, you get to buy iPad 2 which has nearly the same specs. Though the iPad 2 lacks the better camera but this might just be the better deal. If you want a portable touch screen device which can do same tasks like iPad then you have iPod touch for a lesser price. If you want a device which should sit extremely between iPads and iPods then iPad mini is made for your, Apple’s got you.
