Wikipedia Blackout : How To Access Wikipedia Today

| January 18, 2012 | 4 Comments

As you can see that wikipedia is going dark today to protest SOPA and PIPA bills and you cannot access the English version of this site. The two bills intend to stop online piracy and protect copyright holders, however, critics claim they infringe upon creativity, Internet security and innovation by punishing websites that link to any copyright-infringing sites, even by accident. You can still access the wikis today by doing a simple trick as mentioned in my earlier post.

What you need to do is:

  1. Go to the main site : www.wikipedia.org and select Espanol
  2. Start searching for the articles.
  3. Now copy the contents and go to google translate and paste it.
  4. Click translate.

Alternative/Easier Method for Google Chrome Users: If you don’t want to do these even, you can simply browse wikipedia in Google chrome, search anything in Wikipedia Espanol and click on translate(on the bar that appears below bookmarks). See the image below for reference

Some other method include disabling the javascript of the web browser but it might be complicated for some people and other way to access wikipedia is alternative wiki sites which do not have the variety of articles.

This is how wikipedia English is showing protest throughout the world(as on 18/01/2012 – Wednesday)
