Pinterest is the fastest growing social networking site in US and It succeeded to achieve alexa rank under 50 in a very short span of time. What was the reason for pinterest boom? Obviously people liked the website, concept and UI. And suddenly I started to see many a sites(wordpress blogs) changing their themes to pinterest-alike themes. And some other non-wordpress sites also followed pinterest design.
Now, One of my favorite yet not a social networking site, Stumbleupon is planning to change their UI design. When I opened Stumbleupon homepage, I saw a banner which told me to peek into their new beta design. I jumped in and… voila. What I saw was Pinterest. They ripped pinterest design. Those stacked vertical-rectangle tiles, having buttons on them resembled Pinterest to me.
Who cares whether they have copied, or ripped Pinterest design. After all we always spend more time on stumbleupon browsing 3rd party websites. But the newly designed UI will urge you to explore the never seen areas of SU like trending, activity and lists.
I am not saying that they completely ripped off pinterest but yet the design is 99& similar to Pinterest. And I liked the new Stumbleupon UI. They have currently updated their desktop website only and we may expect mobile app upgrade very soon.
