How to Jailbreak iOS 5 Using RedSn0w – For iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Installed iOS 5 and finding the way to jailbreak it? In this post I will be telling you how to jailbreak your iOS 5 device i.e. iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, and iPod touch 4. Its not very difficult to jailbreak iOS 5 but a bit complicated than earlier. As you know that JailbreakMe still don’t support iOS 5 jailbreaking, so you cannot do it simply by opening a website only. It is much more easier to jailbreak an iOS 4.3.3 or earlier device as its just a click away. Either you need to run an app and follow the instructions on screen or you have to open a webpage. But the advantage of that is that you get untethered jailbreak.

This tutorial is for TETHERED Jailbreak. No other dev has found the way out to jailbreak an iOS 5 device untethered. Before trying out redsn0w, I had tried limera1n and jailbreakme, but both failed. The main and the worst disadvantage of this tethered jailbreak is that you need to boot it using redsn0w only. If your iphone hangs and you restart it, it won’t start until you connect it your PC/Mac and boot it using redsn0w. So its not preferable for those who travel a lot without carrying their PC/Mac.

How to Jailbreak – Tutorial starts from here:

  1. Get latest iTunes 10.5
  2. Backup your iPhone, iPod or iPad
  3. Download redsnow – Windows / Mac
  4. Open redsn0w and follow the instructions shown.
It will take around 10 mins to jailbreak your iOS 5 device. Sad thing is that if you are looking for iPad2 jailbreak – its still n0t avaialble. I won’t bore you anymore, just see the detailed instructions shown below:
when you open redsn0w, click on “Jailbreak” and Next. Don’t forget to switch off your iOS device.
After this step, you will see “pineapple” logo on your iPhone, cydia will not work until you follow the next process.
Your iPhone must be showing white cydia icon, connect it to redsn0w and click on “Just boot”
Done! Congrats, your iOS device is jailbroken.  😉 Comment on this post for further help.
